This fund aims for capital growth and income ahead of inflation over 3-5 years. Fund manager Sebastian Lyon is a cautious investor and his philosophy is that preservation of wealth is more important than growth of assets. By sticking to his principles, he has demonstrated low volatility of returns. Lyon achieves this by constructing a well-diversified portfolio of equities, government bonds, index-linked bonds, gold and cash. He gradually builds up positions over months or even years as his decisions tend to be more strategic rather than tactical. The fund tends to do well during more testing market conditions and would be an option for a cautious investor looking for superior returns to cash, albeit with some risk.
