This fund’s aim is capital growth from large and mid-sized companies listed in Asia (ex-Japan) and Australasia. William Lam was appointed sole manager of the fund in 2017, having been involved with the strategy since 2006. The team, including six managers and three analysts, make around 15 trips to Asia each year and conducts 500-1000 company meetings. The fund follows a thorough and repeatable process with stocks screened on the basis of size, liquidity and quality of management. Lam is a contrarian stock picker and seeks opportunities in unloved areas of the market, where he believes valuations are too pessimistic. This strategy may require patience but we believe Lam is a talented young manager worth backing.
