I was interested in investing from a very early age due in no small part from having an accountant for a father. I have always understood the importance of saving and investing and when it came to deciding which industry to work in Financial Services was an obvious fit for me.
I started my career in the mid 1990’s at Natwest Stockbrokers when lots individuals were getting shares from the float of their building society in a process called demutualisation. I soon learnt there were a lot of people in need of help and support when it came to investing. I spent 7 years at Natwest helping and advisers investors on trading shares.
My next step took me to Unit Trusts and I further enhanced my training and experience as an investment adviser at Bestinvest (now Tilney). Over 9 years I developed some close relationships with my colleagues and indeed clients. I held a number of roles from managing a team of advisers to running the PR and Communications including editing the client magazines.
Following on from Bestinvest I spent some time at Hargreaves Lansdown. Working in the research department I quickly learnt how they analysed funds. I moved over to AXA where I had a few roles most recently as investment director for their Multi Asset fund managers Architas. It was very educational working for a fund manager and seeing how the other side of the industry operates.
However, my passion remains helping people make good decisions and this lead me to join Willis Owen. The company has an excellent positive attitude and likes to help their clients, which suits me. Financial services and investing can be complex, however there are some simple things we can all do which can make a big difference.
Outside of work I enjoy a few things but first among them are my wife and two young daughters who we take on as many adventures as possible. I also enjoy Formula 1 and go-karting and am a keen swimmer when I get the chance. Prior to the arrival of the kids I liked to travel and in particular loved wildlife holidays and have travelled to Madagascar, Borneo and the Okovango Delta in Botswana.
